King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark have welcomed the President of Iceland for their first inbound state visit.
Her Excellency Halla Tómasdóttir and her husband, Björn Skúlason, arrived in Denmark yesterday. Following the official welcome, they took part in wreath-laying at the Monument. After this, there was a reception at Amalienborg.
In the afternoon, the King and Queen and the Presidential couple visited Jónshús, an Icelandic cultural centre in Copenhagen. They then visited the Parliament and met with the Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Søren Gade.
At the University of Copenhagen, the couples visited the Arnamagnæanske Samling, which is a collection of manuscripts. Two more meetings followed for the Presidential couple.
In the evening, a state banquet was held at Christiansborg Castle in honour of the Presidential couple. Princess Benedikte was also present at this event.
The state visit will continue today.
