Tiaras are returning to Copenhagen later this month for a gala dinner hosted by King Frederik and Queen Mary in connection with a state visit to Denmark.
At the invitation of King Frederik X and Queen Mary, the General Secretary of the Communist Party (CPV) and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, His Excellency Mr Tô Lâm, accompanied by his wife, Ms Ngô Phương Ly, will pay a state visit to Denmark from 19–21 October 2026. The Royal Court announced the visit last week.
Vietnam and Denmark have shared long-standing, friendly relations since Denmark, one of the first Western countries, recognised North Vietnam in 1971. This year, Denmark and Vietnam celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations, with this state visit marking both historic bilateral ties and strengthened cooperation for the future.
Denmark and Vietnam have strong people-to-people and commercial ties; over 18,200 Danish citizens with Vietnamese roots live in Denmark, and approximately 150 Danish companies are now in Vietnam. The visit will highlight areas of common interest such as green solutions, health, food, and further regional and international cooperation. The state visit will also reaffirm strong mutual commercial interests.
The Danish Royal Family also has a special connection to Vietnam; Prince Henrik grew up partly in Hanoi, and in 2022, the Royal Couple, then the Crown Prince Couple, made their last official visit to Vietnam.
The Royal Couple will host a Gala Dinner at Christiansborg Palace on Monday, 19 October, in honour of the Vietnamese Presidential Couple, who will be accompanied during the visit by an official delegation.
