King Felipe of Spain has presided over the ceremony for the 2025 National Research Awards.
The awards are granted in recognition of the merit of the Spanish researchers who are carrying out work of international relevance and contributing to the advancement of knowledge.
King Felipe was received by the President of the Government of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, and the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant. Inside the building, he was also greeted by the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Universities, Juan Cruz Cigudosa, and the Minister of Research and Universities of the Government of Catalonia, Núria Montserrat.

The ceremony was hosted by journalist Cristina Villanueva. Speeches were given by the President of the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities. Alongside the President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, the Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, and the Secretary General for Research, Eva Ortega, King Felipe then presented the awards.
Afterwards, he also delivered a speech in which he emphasised that “today we recognise in you your ability to shape knowledge and your commitment to a better society. Your careers represent science geared towards the common good, knowledge at the service of people. As a country, it is our responsibility to rise to the challenge of this endeavour: to support it, foster collaboration, and ensure that research receives the necessary backing to continue progressing.”
