King Felipe and Queen Letizia visit disaster site

King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain have visited the site of the train disaster near Cordoba.

They were accompanied by the First Vice President of the Government and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero. They met with the President of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla; the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente; the President of the Parliament of Andalusia, Jesús Ramón Aguirre; the Government Delegate in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, Pedro Fernández; and the Mayor of Adamuz, Rafael Ángel Moreno.

At the command post, they learned about the different tasks being performed. They met with representatives of the rescue agencies, the Civil Guard, the local police of Adamuz and Córdoba, firefighters from different institutions, and the Military Emergency Unit and volunteers.

At the Poniente Sur Civic Centre in Cordoba, the King and Queen met with psychologists and other healthcare workers, who are working with families of the victims.

At the Reina Sofía University Hospital, they visited people who were injured in the accident, such as three children from the same family.

King Felipe expressed his appreciation for “the exceptional professionalism, dedication, and commitment of all the services involved” in caring for the victims of the accident. He spoke of “the willingness of all levels of government to lend a hand, to contribute resources and capabilities, and to coordinate everything,” and referred to the support provided to the families, conveying to them “the affection of the entire country.”
