King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden sent a message following the school shooting in Austria.
He wrote, “The Queen and I wish to convey our sincere condolences on the tragic loss of lives following the brutal shooting in Graz. We extend our sincere condolences and our heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of the victims and to the people of Austria.”
Ten people, mostly teenagers, were killed after a shooter opened fire. Nine of the victims were students between the ages of 15 and 17. The tenth victim was a teacher. Another twelve students were injured during the shooting.
The suspect is a 21-year-old Austrian man who had attended the school but had not graduated. He fatally shot himself in the bathroom after the killing spree.
Chancellor Christian Stocker announced three days of national mourning.
