Grand Duke Guillaume V and Grand Duchess Stéphanie arrive in Spain

The Grand Ducal Couple travelled to Spain on Thursday. 

Grand Duke Guillaume V and Grand Duchess Stéphanie of Luxembourg began their two-day official visit to Spain earlier today.

It was previously announced in the Official State Gazette that by Royal Decree of King Felipe VI, the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess were to be invested with the Collar and Grand Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic respectively.

The Grand Duke and Grand Duchess landed in Madrid on Thursday morning and were received by various officials. The Maison du Grand-Duc posted a lovely video to social media with the caption, “¡Hola #Madrid!”

On the Plaza de la Armería, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia received the Grand Ducal Couple with affection. The King and the Grand Duke then inspected a waiting Guard of Honour, while the Queen and Grand Duchess exchanged pleasantries.

The Sovereign Couples walked into the Royal Palace and posed for photographs.

The King and the Grand Duke then met with the visiting delegations in relation to the official visit.

Following the meetings, a luncheon was held in honour of the Grand Ducal Couple’s visit to Spain. The two sovereigns spoke warmly of each other and their respective countries.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia gifted the Grand Ducal Couple a handcrafted Spanish guitar, pitcher set with six glasses from the Royal Glass Factory of La Granja (Real Fábrica de Cristales de La Granja), and a book which commemorates the bicentenary of the Royal Theatre of Madrid. The Grand Duke and Grand Duchess, in turn, presented the King and Queen with a Villeroy & Boch crystal vase, a vase from the “De Mains de Maîtres” exhibition as well as a customary signed photograph, per ElDebate.
