Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden has given the opening speech at the Parliament of Swedes Abroad.

The event took place digitally, and the Crown Princess spoke from Haga Palace. The Parliament of Swedes Abroad is a forum from the organisation Swedes in the World that brings together Swedes abroad, experts and politicians to discuss solutions to the challenges that Swedes abroad have.

She said, “I appreciate the opportunity to once again attend the Parliament of Swedes Abroad. Today, there are nearly 700,000 Swedes who study, work or for other reasons live outside Sweden’s borders. You are ambassadors for Sweden every day, all year round, and often for long periods of time.

“Through your networks and experiences, you contribute to building trust and long-term relationships between countries, societies and individuals. You put Sweden on the world map and are an enormously valuable resource for our country. In addition, you are important role models for Swedes who are considering living abroad – temporarily or for longer periods.”
