Crown Prince Haakon of Norway learned more about the Norwegian seafood industry ahead of his June visit to Japan.

Japan is one of the most important markets for Norwegian seafood.

Crown Prince Haakon visited the closed test facility “Egget” in Vestnes, where they are attempting to eliminate sea lice and escapes. He then visited Salmon Evolution in Hustadvika, the world’s largest land-based facility. Crown Prince Haakon told the press, “I have learned a lot today, and I am very impressed by what I have seen. The aquaculture industry is, of course, an important part of Norwegian industry, and we would like it to grow, but for it to grow in a sustainable way. Then we need new solutions, and the industry itself is also concerned about that. There are a lot of exciting things happening, and I wanted to learn more about them.”

After the boat trip to Hudstadvika, Crown Prince Haakon said, “I am very impressed by the drive, and that there are so many who are willing to invest. Many are willing to work hard to make this happen, not only with good quality, but also with sustainability. I think that is really exciting to follow.”

Crown Prince Haakon then visited the mackerel boat “Havsnurp” and the longliner “MS Midsund”, both of which fish for mackerel sturgeon. At the factory in Vikomar, the Crown Prince learned more about the entire chain, from catching the fish to when it comes to market.
