King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain brought plenty of sparkle for their state visit to Denmark.

The King and Queen of Spain were received at Copenhagen Airport by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary and Princess Benedikte. After the playing of both national anthems, King Felipe reviewed the Guard of Honour.

They then travelled to Amalienborg Palace, where a meeting was held with the Queen and the Crown Prince couple. King Felipe then travelled to Christiansborg Palace for a meeting with the Prime Minister of Denmark.

In the evening, a state banquet was held at Christiansborg Palace with around 200 guests.

Queen Margrethe opened the banquet with a speech focusing on the historic ties between Spain and Denmark. She also mentioned the Princess of Asturias, who has just turned 18 years old.

King Felipe also spoke a few words, saying, “I also want to express our gratitude for your kind invitation to visit the Kingdom of Denmark. We are happy to be able to carry out our State Visit to this beloved country with which we are united by close ties of friendship and belonging to a common European project (…) We both hope that this visit bears witness to the excellent moment of our bilateral relations, which are based on solid ties, both personal, cultural, economic and social.”
