The new Crown Prince of Denmark was born Prince Christian of Denmark as the eldest child of the then Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. He was born on 15 October 2005 at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen. He was hospitalised briefly a week later for neonatal jaundice.
He was baptised with the names Christian Valdemar Henri John on 21 January 2006 in the Chapel of Christiansborg Palace by Bishop Erik Norman Svendsen. His godparents were Prince Joachim of Denmark, Jane Stephens, the Crown Prince of Greece, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Jeppe Handwerk and Hamish Campbell. He was confirmed in Fredensborg Palace Chapel on 15 May 2021.
Prince Christian has three younger siblings, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.
His official education began in the 0 class at Tranegårdskolen on 12 August 2011. He began in the 1.g. class of the gymnasium at Herlufsholm in Næstved on 11 August 2021. He started in 2.g at Ordrup Gymnasium in Gentofte in 2022.
His first official engagement took place in 2008 when he opened a new elephant house at the Copenhagen Zoo with his grandfather, Prince Henrik.
He became Crown Prince upon his father’s accession on 14 January 2024.
