Virginia Giuffre, who accused the Duke of York of sexual abuse, has died by suicide, her family has said. She was 41 years old.

Virginia not only accused Prince Andrew, but also Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, his former girlfriend. She alleged that she was trafficked by them to the Duke of York at the age of 17. Prince Andrew has always denied these allegations.

Her family said in a statement that she was a “fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse” and that the “toll of abuse… became unbearable. She lost her life to suicide after being a lifelong victim of sexual abuse and sex trafficking.”

Police were called to Virginia’s home on Friday, and the statement added that, “The death is being investigated by Major Crime detectives; early indication is the death is not suspicious.”

Virginia had reached an out-of-court settlement with Prince Andrew in 2022. This included a statement in which he expressed regret for his association with Epstein, but it contained no admission of liability or apology.
