Queen Camilla visited the Emmaus Norfolk and Waveney charity that combats homelessness in Norfolk.
The Queen saw the Emmaus Norfolk and Waveney women’s centre, which opened last year, and celebrated its new partnership with The Queen’s Reading Room. The visit also marks the 20th anniversary of Queen Camilla becoming its patron.
Her Majesty also heard personal stories from the women who have overcome homelessness thanks to the charity that opened in rural Norfolk. The companions, as residents are called, get tailored support for trauma recovery that helps them thrive.
She spoke to Cecile Roberts, the charity branch’s chief executive and Sir Terry Waite, the president.

After a tour, the Queen visited the charity shop and social enterprise to see the items created by companions. Jewellery and other items are sold at the shop, enabling the residents to put in hard work at the forge and see their items on display.
Emmaus Norfolk and Waveney also has a new partnership with The Queen’s Reading Room, which has sponsored a reading nook for those there who enjoy literature. The Queen’s Reading Room Shelves are filled with books that have been selected by the companions and donated by Pan Macmillan.
The charity opened in 2011 and now helps up to 50 people from the site of the former All Hallows Convent.
