Queen Camilla gave an impressive speech at a meeting rallying against violence against women and girls.
The meeting was hosted by Camilla and was attended by several advocates and activists. Queen Mathilde, Queen Rania, Crown Princess Mary and the Countess of Wessex also attended the reception. There will be a total of 16 days of activism.
Queen Camilla said, “Because over a 16-day period worldwide over 2,000 women will be killed by a partner or a member of their own family. Because in England and Wales alone, the police will record over 3,000 in that same period of women having been raped. And because up to 1 in 3 women around the world experience domestic violence in the course of their lives. Behind each of these statistics are individual stories of human suffering and heartbreak.”
“Over the years, in my previous role, I had the privilege of meeting many survivors of rape and domestic violence; and of sharing in the grief of those who have lost family members to violence. And time and time again I heard that remembering and listening are two of the most powerful ways to help.”
“Let’s not miss this precious opportunity to speak out and drive action that will forever end these heinous crimes. With determination and courage, we will succeed.”
