Queen Camilla expressed her support for sexual abuse victims while speaking to influential female leaders at St James’ Palace.
The Queen, as president, attended the WOW – Women of the World reception at the palace to mark International Women’s Day.
Her Majesty was said to have had the victims of Jeffrey Epstein at the front of her mind while delivering remarks to those gathered.
She said, “To every survivor of every kind of violence, many of whom have not been able to tell their stories or who have not been believed, please know that you are not alone.
“We stand with you and alongside you, today and every day, in solidarity, sorrow and sympathy.”
The Queen highlighted troubling statistics in the UK where a woman is murdered by a man every three days. Of those, 62% are killed by partners or ex-partners. Almost a third of British women have been the victim of some sort of domestic abuse.
She stressed, “Every woman has a story. And these stories must be told. Because when we live in a culture of silence, we empower violence against women and girls.”
Her remarks come as her brother-in-law, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, is still in the news for his relationship with convicted paedophile Epstein. Andrew’s subsequent arrest on suspicion of misconduct in a public office only added scrutiny to the monarchy. The former prince previously served as the UK’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment.
He has always denied any wrongdoing.
Queen Camilla has campaigned for years in support of victims and survivors of domestic abuse and violence.
