The Princess Royal was in South Africa for a two-day visit.
On the first day of her visit, Princess Anne visited the South African Riding for the Disabled Association (SARDA). This association provides free equine therapy, sport and training to vulnerable people. Through the association, scholars have won 6 Gold, 2 Silver and 4 Bronze Medals at the Paralympics. The Princess is President of the Riding for the Disabled Association.
She then went to the British High Commission Residence Garden, which she toured with Mr Leon Kluge, gold winner at the 2024 Chelsea Flower Show with Cape Floral Kingdom and Mr Bulelani Bashe, Head Horticulturist at Grootbos Foundation. She planted a so-called Princess Anne Rose in the garden.
On the second day, she began with a visit to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) to unveil the Cape Town Labour Corps Memorial. This new memorial will honour the contribution of South African military labourers in the First World War. Afterwards, she visited the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation.
She then visited the Royal Cape Yacht Club to learn about the work of The Royal Cape Sailing Academy, which helps people to develop their skills through sailing.
She also visited the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) to look at the McClean Telescope.
At the end of the day, she visited the Thuthuzela Care Centre (TCC), which is meant to be a safe space for survivors of sexual assault.
