The Tortoise Takeover is a sculpture trail with works of art that will lead visitors to see the tortoises and their homes. Each of the tortoise sculptures has been designed by artists, and after the trail, the sculptures will be auctioned off to raise funds for a new Tropical Hosue at Jersey Zoo.
The Princess Royal saw the “Sanctuary” sculpture which had been gifted by Durrell to mark 50 years of the Princess’ PatronageĀ of the Trust. The Princess had chosen artist Gabriella Street for the sculpture, who chose the colours based on the clothes the Princess is often seen wearing.
Princess Anne officially opened the Tortoise Tunnel, an enclosure for four giant Aldabra tortoises.
