The Prince of Wales visited ActOne, an independent, community-led cinema in Acton, West London, to celebrate the richness and talent of the British film industry ahead of the Prince and Princess attending the Royal Film Performance™ World premiere of Digger today.
Prince William was in West London this afternoon to celebrate the richness and talent of the British film industry and the community spirit of independent UK cinemas. ActOne opened in 2021, after a group of over one hundred volunteers restored Acton’s PaActon’sEdwards community library, transforming it into a two-screen cinema, café and community space. ActOne is now run by a board of volunteers and a small team of full-time staff, supported by a large group of loyal volunteers.
This afternoon, the Prince met with the team behind ActOne and learned how they have made the cinema a vital hub for the local community. The cinema shows the latest independent British films, world cinema, documentaries, film festival screenings and filmmaker events, as well as the occasional blockbuster.
The Prince also had the opportunity to meet young filmmakers and creators from the local community, some of whom ActOne has supported in creating and releasing their films.

ActOne prides itself on making cinema accessible for all, from hosting screenings of films by local filmmakers to running weekly parent and baby screenings as well as relaxed screenings for neurodivergent customers.
Today’s visit comes ahead of William and Catherine’s appearance at the Royal Film Performance™ World Premiere of Digger tonight, supporting the Film and TV Charity. The World Premiere of Digger will be the 73rd Royal Film Performance™ delivered by the charity in its 100-year history.
The first Royal Command Film Performance in aid of the charity took place at the Empire Cinema in Leicester Square in 1946 and was attended by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth along with Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret. The film shown was Powell and Pressburger’s Life and Death, starring David Niven.
According to Warner Bros., from 1946 to date, the Film and TV Charity has held 72 fundraising Royal Film Performance™ events. The last Royal Film Performance™ of Gladiator II, directed by Ridley Scott, took place in 2024 at the Odeon Luxe in Leicester Square and was attended by King Charles III.
The Royal Film Performance™ is the flagship fundraiser for The Film and TV Charity. This organisation supports the tens of thousands of people working behind the scenes in the UK’s world-leading film and television industry.
