The Prince of Wales has personally thanked the participants of the Colonel’s Review on Twitter.
He said, “A big thank you to every solider (sic) who took part in the Colonel’s Review this morning in the heat. Difficult conditions, but you all did a really good job. Thank you. W”
The Colonel’s Review happens the week before Trooping the Colour and is the final rehearsal for the Trooping regiment. This year, the Welsh Guards will be trooping their Colour at the official birthday celebrations for King Charles III. This will be the first official birthday celebration of his reign.
At least three soldiers collapsed during the rehearsals due to the heat, as temperatures rose to 28 degrees Celsius in London on Saturday.
Prince William became Colonel of the Welsh Guards at the end of 2022 and succeeded his father. He had previously been Colonel of the Irish Guards, but this post is now being held by his wife, the Princess of Wales. King Charles held the position from 1975 to 2022.
Kensington Palace shared a video of Prince William on horseback and wrote, “Months of preparation and training go into Trooping the Colour. Today members of the Household Division will perform their final major rehearsal for the event in front of members of the public in London. With thanks to the Welsh Guards, Household Cavalry and @armyinlondon.”
Trooping the Colour will take place on 17 June.
