The Duke of Edinburgh teared up as his wife Sophie paid tribute to him ahead of his 60th birthday on Sunday.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh visited the Headingley Stadium in Leeds, where they attended the Community Sport and Recreation Awards. They met with female players who were doing Rugby League drills and then joined the Awards ceremony.
The Duke of Edinburgh is the President of the Sports and Recreation Alliance.

The Duchess held a speech during the ceremony where she praised her husband as “the best of fathers, the most loving of husbands.”
She added, “So here’s to you my darling Edward and may I along with all your family and so many friends and many others wish you the Happiest of Birthdays!”
