King Charles has met the world’s oldest person, 116-year-old Ethel Caterham, in mid-September.

The meeting took place in mid-September during a special visit to her care home in Lightwater, Surrey.

She had remarked that she would skip a quiet birthday party in August to meet King Charles, and His Majesty paid her a special visit less than a month later.

Caterham recalled to the King his investiture as Prince of Wales in 1969 and how girls fawned over him.

Caterham also received a birthday card from His Majesty. It is a tradition that the monarch sends out birthday cards to any UK citizen and citizens of UK Overseas Territories when they turn 100, 105 and the years after.

The birthday card was seen in a frame in the video shared by Buckingham Palace on social media of King Charles and Ms Caterham.

Caterham was born on 21 August 1909 and has lived through the reigns of King Edward VII, King George V, King Edward VIII, King George VI, Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles.

She became the world’s oldest living person in April 2025.
