King Charles and the Prince and Princess of Wales have expressed their shock and sent condolences after three children were killed in a knife attack in northern England.
Three children have been killed and another eight injured in a stabbing attack during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class.
King Charles said: “My wife and I have been profoundly shocked to hear of the utterly horrific incident in Southport today. We send our most heartfelt condolences, prayers and deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who have so tragically lost their lives, and to all those affected by this truly appalling attack.”
The Prince and Princess of Wales also released a message of sympathy on social media, personally writing: “As parents, we cannot begin to imagine what the families, friends and loved ones of those killed and injured in Southport today are going through. We send our love, thoughts and prayers to all those involved in this horrid and heinous attack. Thank you also to the emergency responders who, despite being met with the most horrific scenes, demonstrated compassion and professionalism when your community needed you most.”
They signed it “W & C” – indicating that they had penned the message themselves on X (formerly Twitter).
Five children and two adults are in critical condition, according to Merseyside Police’s Chief Constable Serena Kennedy.
The perpetrator walked into the class with the knife and began stabbing the children in the late morning of 29 July.
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested and the police have said this is not being treated as a terror incident.
