King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium will attend the commemoration of the 2016 Brussels bombings.
The commemoration will take place on 22 March 2026, the tenth anniversary of the Brussels attacks. The commemoration is organised by the federal government, Brussels Airport, and the STIB-MIVB, in collaboration with those involved, their families and their loved ones. It will be a moment of reflection and tribute to all the victims of the 2016 attacks and all other terrorist acts in Belgium and abroad.
King Philippe and Queen Mathilde will attend three separate ceremonies: in the departure hall of Brussels Airport, at the Maalbeek metro station, and at the monument commemorating the victims of the terrorist attacks.
On 22 March 2016, two terrorist attacks took place in and near Brussels. Two suicide bombers detonated their bombs at Brussels Airport in Zaventem, while another detonated a bomb on the train leaving Maalbeek metro station. Over 300 people were injured, and 32 were killed in the attacks. The three bombers also died. Another bomber fled the scene without detonating his bomb and leaving the bomb behind. Another fled with the bomb. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attacks
