Royals attend UN General Assembly – UNGA Day 4

Welcome back to your second-to-last day of royal coverage of the 81st United Nations General Assembly. We are almost finished with UN Week in the Big Apple, as we’ve watched speeches and observed bilateral meetings between leaders. Thursday was quieter than the previous three days. Find out who did what below.

• Aga Khan V

The Aga Khan V, Prince Rahim, is attending the UNGA as head of the global Nizari Ismaili Shia Muslims. The Aga Khan met with several high-level leaders over the past week. On Thursday, Prince Rahim met with Kenyan President William Ruto and the U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye.

• Prince Abdul Mateen

One royal who has had little coverage over the past few days is Prince Abdul Mateen of Brunei. The Prince, who is accompanied by his wife, Princess Anisha, is attending his first UNGA in his capacity as newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs. Although the Prince and Princess did not appear to have any engagements on Thursday, the couple attended the General Debate and several meetings in recent days.

• King Letsie III

King Letsie III of Lesotho participated in various meetings on Thursday. The King also, on the margins of the UNGA, as African high-level representatives joined global partners to confront ‘that trend head-on, making the case that child survival and nutrition belong at the centre of national priorities, backed by domestic resources, country-led plans and sustained accountability.’

• Queen Maxima

Queen Maxima of the Netherlands has been attending several high-level meetings throughout the week. On Thursday, the Queen, accompanied by Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, Mr Arthur Dowers, Minister of Justice, Integration, Public Transport and Energy of Aruba, and Mr Claret Connor, Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labour of Sint Maarten, met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres. According to a UN Spokesperson, they discussed the climate crisis and the implementation of the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for Small Island Developing States, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
