Royal orders have been exchanged during the Japanese State Visit to the UK.

As is customary on such visits, the monarchs bestowed royal orders on one another.

King Charles appointed Emperor Naruhito of Japan to the Most Noble Order of the Garter – the UK’s highest order of chivalry.

On the other hand, Emperor Naruhito presented King Charles with the Collar of the Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum – Japan’s highest honour.

The orders were exchanged on the first day of the State Visit. Both King Charles and Emperor Naruhito were seen in their new orders during the State Banquet at Buckingham Palace.

Queen Camilla and Empress Masako, who were not granted new orders, wore the orders of their countries during the banquet.
