Japan’s Princess Aiko is set to make her first official foreign visit in November.

The only child of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako will visit Laos to mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between it and Japan.

Princess Aiko, 23, will visit Laos for six days beginning on 17 November and ending on 22 November.

She will meet the President of Laos and attend a banquet hosted by the Vice President. She will also visit a school where Japanese teachers teach their language and travel to the ancient capital of Luang Prabang (a UNESCO World Heritage site).

Although she is the only child of the Emperor, she is not in the line of succession to the Japanese throne. Japan does not allow women to reign in their own right.

The heir to the throne is the Emperor’s younger brother, Crown Prince Fumihito. Currently, there are only three people in the line of succession: the Crown Prince, his son (Hisahito) and his uncle (Masahito).
