Masahito, Prince Hitachi tests positive for COVID-19

Masahito, Prince Hitachi of Japan has tested positive for COVID-19, the Imperial Household Agency has announced.

Masahito, Prince Hitachi was hospitalised yesterday at the Japanese Red Cross Medical Center in Shibuya Ward because of his fever and cough.

His wife, Hanako, Princess Hitachi, has tested negative and is not showing any symptoms of the disease.

The Prince is 87 years old, and he is the younger brother of Emperor Emeritus Akihito and thus uncle of the current Emperor. He is third and last in the line of succession.
