The state visit of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako to the United Kingdom kicked off earlier today with a ceremonial welcome.
They were welcomed to Buckingham Palace by King Charles III, Queen Camilla and the Prince of Wales. This is the King’s first state visit since he was diagnosed with cancer.
The 1st Battalion Welsh Guards gave the ceremonial welcome on the parade ground. The royals travelled in a carriage procession on the Mall towards Buckingham Palace. Empress Masako could be seen wearing a mask as she is allergic to horse hair.
The state visit will continue until Friday.
