With the abdication of Grand Duke Henri in favour of his son, Guillaume, Luxembourg has a new heir – the youngest heir in the world.

At five years old, Prince Charles of Luxembourg is now the youngest heir in the world and holds the title of Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg.

He is the elder son of Grand Duke Guillaume and Grand Duchess Stéphanie, born on 10 May 2020 in the Grand Duchess Charlotte Maternity Hospital in Luxembourg City. Charles has one younger brother, Prince François (b. 2023).

Charles was christened on 19 September 2020 in the Abbey of St. Maurice and St. Maurus of Clervaux. His godparents are his maternal aunt, Countess Gaëlle de Lannoy and paternal uncle, Prince Louis.

Since his birth in 2020, he has joined his parents on various royal outings, slowly preparing him for his future role.

Until the abdication, the youngest heir in the world was the Crown Prince of Bhutan, Jigme Namgyel, 9.

Now, Hereditary Grand Duke Charles will grow up even more in the public eye while being prepared to one day take the throne.
