Jordanian King and Queen mark World Teachers’ Day

King Abdullah and Queen Rania of Jordan visited Aisha bint Abu Bakr Mixed Primary School in Aqaba to mark World Teachers’ Day.

On Sunday, 4 October, Their Majesties travelled to the school to mark the day and honour teachers, which occurs on Monday, 5 October. They were joined by Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, Minister of Education and Human Resource Development Azmi Mahafzah, and Queen Rania Teacher Academy Chief Executive Officer Abdelmajeed Shamlawi.

The King and Queen thanked educators for the work they do and the vital role they play in shaping the lives of students. They spoke to the teachers about their jobs and how they benefited from training programmes.

After touring the school’s facilities and learning about the professional development programmes for teachers, King Abdullah and Queen Rania sat in on training sessions for teachers. They also spent time in a kindergarten class with teachers who completed the professional development programme for public school kindergarten teachers.

In Jordan, students go to school from Sunday to Thursday, with Friday and Saturday being considered the weekend. Most of the Middle East follows this week structure.
