Memorial concert held for late Duchess of Kent

A memorial concert has been held for the Duchess of Kent, who died on 4 September 2025.

The concert was organised by the charity Future Talent, which was co-founded by the Duchess to support young musicians from low-income backgrounds.

The concert was attended by several of the late Duchess’s family members, such as her husband, the Duke of Kent, and her brother-in-law, Prince Michael of Kent. Also present were all three of her children, Lady Helen Taylor, George Windsor, Earl of St Andrews, and Lord Nicholas Windsor and his wife, Sophie, as well as her granddaughters, Lady Marina Macauley and Lady Amelia Windsor.

The night features over 40 young musicians and alums. Alumna Sam Nutter wrote the orchestral work Destiny’s Journey in the Duchess’s honour.

Alexander Armstrong, who was the host of the evening, told the audience, “Katharine’s love of life, her love of music, but most particularly, her love of people in all their infinite variety. Katharine was no aloof patron of Future Talent. She loved nothing more than rolling up her sleeves and getting involved and getting her hands dirty. She loved to keep up with all of the musicians. So much so that she would frequently just ring them out of the blue, just to hear how they were getting on.”

Adam O’Shea, one of the charity’s alumni, said: “I remind you of Chopin, Beethoven, and Debussy. They never truly died; they simply became music. And so, too, Katharine lives on with the music that this great family and Future Talent share here this evening.”
