Queen Sofía of Spain is on a days-long visit to the US state of Louisiana.
The Queen arrived in New Orleans on 24 September to attend events marking the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States. Events have been organised on the occasion of the III Symposium “America&Spain250”: “Spain and the American Revolution along the Mississippi River.”
The symposium has been organised by the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute, the Historic New Orleans Collection, the Queen Sofía Foundation and the Ramón Areces Foundation. It will focus on the contributions of Spain to the American Revolution.
Her Majesty toured the exhibition “Spain, Spanish America, and the Atlantic World in an Age of Revolution” at the Doris Z. Stone Library at Tulane University. It focuses on Latin American independence movements from 1759 to 1824.

On 25 September, the Queen opened the III Symposium “America&Spain250”: “Spain and the American Revolution along the Mississippi River” at the Cathedral of St. Louis. Afterwards, she viewed the exhibit “Gálvez and Louisiana in the American Revolution” at the Cabildo Museum.
Her trip to Louisiana will continue for the next two days with presentations at the Williams Research Center, the laying of a wreath at the statue of Bernardo de Gálvez and meeting those with Spanish heritage in the state.
