Queen Sirikit’s cremation dates announced

The Bureau of the Royal Household has confirmed the dates for Queen Sirikit’s royal cremation ceremonies. Details below. 

Queen Sirikit’s cremation dates have been announced. Thailand’s former Queen Mother died last October and will finally be laid to rest after a year of mourning.

Earlier this month, the Bureau of the Royal Household confirmed the dates for the five-day ceremonies. From 15th to 19th December, Thailand, along with members of royal families from around the world, will say a final goodbye to the beloved maternal figure who was Queen of Thailand for 66 years.

Ceremonies begin with a Royal Merit-Making Ceremony at 5 pm on Tuesday 15th December, at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall. The following day, Queen Sirikit’s Royal Cremation will be held on Wednesday 16 December. The day will begin at 7 am with the Royal Urn being conveyed from the Grand Palace to the Royal Crematorium, which is being built at Sanam Luang in Bangkok. The Royal Cremation will take place later in the day at 4:30 pm.

On Saturday 19 December, at 5 pm, the Royal Ashes will be interred at Wat Ratchabophit Sathit Maha Simaram and Wat Bowonniwet Vihara, bringing the five-day ceremonies to a close. Royal permission has been granted for the Public Relations Department and Television Pool of Thailand to broadcast the Royal Cremation Ceremonies live, in full, while the Main Press Centre and International Broadcast Centre are being arranged for domestic and international media.
