Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden’s trip with the United Nations Development Programme was affected by a volcanic eruption in Indonesia.
The Crown Princess was due to visit Indonesia as a Goodwill Ambassador from 4 to 8 September to focus on sustainable development, climate action, biodiversity conservation, digital transformation and inclusive economic growth.
The visit was forced to end on 6 September, and scheduled events in Jakarta had to be scrapped due to the eruption of the Anak Krakatau volcano. She will now return to Sweden via Bali.
The Head of Information at the Royal Court, Margareta Thorgen, told TT, “The program items that were planned in Jakarta are unfortunately cancelled for the Crown Princess, which is incredibly sad for everyone involved.”
The Royal Court was afraid the Crown Princess and her delegation would get stuck in Jakarta and miss the funeral of King Harald of Norway in Oslo on 9 September.
Almost half of all flights were cancelled leaving Jakarta after the eruption.
Crown Princess Victoria has been a UNDP Goodwill Ambassador since October 2023.
