Princess Leonor begins university

The Princess of Asturias has begun her university education at the Getafe Campus of the Carlos III University of Madrid.

She joined 3,000 other new students for the first day of classes in Madrid. The Princess will study political science.

According to Casa Real, “This degree, offered at the Getafe campus, includes subjects related to Political Science, the Humanities, Law, Economics, Sociology, History, and International Relations, among others. ”

Leonor’s classes began at 9:00 am. With her classmates, she heard a brief explanation from Gema García Albacete, director of the Political Science degree program, about what to expect over the next four years. She went to her first class following the presentation; her first class was “Legal Theory,” which was taught by Professor Rafael de Asís Roig.

They later attended a practical session on Social Science Research Methodology, led by Professor Carlos Santiago Caballero and a lecture on the Foundations of Political Science, given by Professor Pablo Simón Cosano.

She will combine her university studies with her royal duties.

In July 2027, Leonor will receive the commissions of Lieutenant of Infantry of the Army, Lieutenant of the Flight speciality of the Air and Space Force and Ensign of the General Corps of the Navy. They will be presented to her by her father, King Felipe.
