King of Bhutan offers prayers for victims of flash flood

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan has offered prayers to the victims of the flash flood in Nepal and China.

The King was joined by his father, the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, his wife, Queen Jetsun Pema, the Queen Mothers and other members of the royal family.

They lit a thousand butter lamps at the Grand Kuenrey of Tashichhodzong. The prayers were offered for those who died, those who are still missing and their grieving families.

The King was later also joined by the Prime Minister, senior government leaders, and Nepali citizens working in Bhutan.

The death toll has risen to 489, with hundreds still missing, including foreign tourists.
