Queen Elizabeth II sculpture to be unveiled at Romsey Abbey

A sculpture dedicated to the late Queen Elizabeth II is set to be unveiled at Romsey Abbey in September.

The new life-size bronze sculpture will be unveiled at 1 pm on 4 September 2026 in the north churchyard.

The Test Valley Borough Council said, “The sculpture will provide a permanent tribute to the late Queen and celebrate her enduring connection to Romsey and the wider Test Valley.”

It represents her connections to Broadlands and the Mountbatten family (the family of the late Duke of Edinburgh).

This is the second artwork commissioned by the Council. Another piece was installed in Andover in 2024, honouring her Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

The statue was created by Hampshire artist Amy Goodman, and it will be presented to the public by the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire and Countess Mountbatten of Burma.

Goodman said of her creation, “It has been a real privilege to create this sculpture of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for Romsey. Throughout the project, I’ve been inspired by the many stories, memories and contributions shared by local people, which have helped shape the design and make it deeply connected to the community.

“The sculpture reflects the Queen at a pivotal moment in her life, stepping into a lifetime of service, while also celebrating her special links to Romsey and the Abbey. I’m looking forward to unveiling the artwork and welcoming residents and visitors to enjoy it for years to come.”

The event will include speeches, live music and an exhibit on the creation of the piece.
