Prince Lorenz, the husband of Princess Astrid of Belgium, is recovering from cancer.

Belgian reporter Wim Dehandschutter first reported the news of the Prince’s illness via HLN.

Prince Lorenz is currently recovering from an undisclosed cancer, having undergone treatment in 2023.

Friend and private spokesman of Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz, HervĂ© Verhoosel, told HLN, “Prince Lorenz has indeed been diagnosed with cancer.

“He underwent surgery in mid-2021. A relapse was subsequently diagnosed in late 2022, which required new treatment in the spring of 2023.”

Prince Lorenz, 70, is private about his health, and that’s why it has taken so long for the news of his cancer to be revealed.

Verhoosel also reassured those worried about Lorenz’s health. He said, “Today, Prince Lorenz still goes for regular check-ups, but he is continuing his activities. During his treatment, he could count on the constant support of Princess Astrid and their children.”

The Prince is the grandson of Austria’s last reigning emperor and Hungary’s last king, Charles I. He is the head of the House of Austria-Este and also holds the title of Archduke of Austria-Este.
