King Felipe attends naval review

King Felipe of Spain attended a naval review in the waters of the Vigo Estuary.

The King presided over the naval review aboard the Maritime Action Ship (BAM) “Audaz” (P-45). He was received by the Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles; the Chief of the Defence Staff, Teodoro Esteban López Calderón; the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Antonio Piñeiro Sánchez and the Lieutenant Commander of the BAM “Audaz” Fernando Rodríguez García, among other representatives.

The “Auduz” is one of Spain’s most modern BAMs, launched in 2017. Its main mission is to contribute to national maritime security. It has been deployed to the Gulf of Guinea on a security and cooperation mission.

The review included the strategic projection vessel LHD “Juan Carlos I”; the amphibious assault ship LPD “Castilla”; the Álvaro de Bazán-class frigates “Blas de Lezo” and “Almirante Juan de Borbón”; the Santa María-class frigate “Reina Sofía”; the hydrographic vessel “Malaspina”; as well as the ocean-going vessel “Duque de Ahumada” and the patrol boat “Río Luna,” both from the Civil Guard. Several aircraft also took part.
