King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden has received an official birthday gift from parliament.

The birthday gift is a carpet woven in Märta Måås-Fjetterström’s workshop in Båstad, which has been placed on the podium under the throne in the State Hall at the Royal Palace. Officially, the carpet will belong to the royal collections.

The pattern of the newly woven carpet was designed in 1934 and is called “The White Lace Gate.” It weighs 108 kilograms (238 lbs).

Märta Måås-Fjetterström (died 1941) was a Swedish textile artist whose carpets have been placed in royal environments for several generations.

Swedish design history and a perfect interior design achievement that all visitors to the Royal Hall can enjoy – now and in the future.”
