King Charles and Queen Camilla have attended the annual Royal Maundy Service.

The Royal Maundy Service took place at St Asaph Cathedral in North Wales. This was the first time the service had been held in Wales since 1982 and only the second time in its history. The current Cathedral building dates back to the 14th century, and it houses an original copy of the William Morgan Bible, dating from 1588.

King Charles presented Royal Maundy gifts to 77 men and 77 women from Wales and other dioceses in the UK. The number represents the King’s age. The money is given in recognition of the men and women’s outstanding Christian service.

The gifts were two purses with Maundy Money. The white purse contained a set of silver Maundy coins totalling 77 pennies, which were specially minted for the occasion. The red purse contained a £5 coin commemorating 100 years since Queen Elizabeth II’s birth and a 50p coin celebrating the 50th anniversary of The King’s Trust.

Following the service, King Charles and Queen Camilla met with members of the cathedral community.
