King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark have exchanged orders with the Estonian President and First Lady during the Danish state visit to Estonia.

Following tradition, country orders were exchanged during the state visit with the King, Queen, President and First Lady, each receiving one order.

King Frederik was bestowed the chain of the Grand Cross of the Order of Terra Mariana, while Queen Mary received the Grand Cross of the Order of Terra Mariana – Estonia’s most prestigious honour. The King had previously been granted the Grand Cross.

President Alar Karis was made a Knight of the Order of the Elephant, and the First Lady was bestowed the Grand Cross of the Order of the Dannebrog.

The Order of the Elephant is Denmark’s highest order, which was founded in the 15th century. Its presentation is the monarch’s personal choice.

The Order of the Dannebrog was created by King Christian V in 1671 to honour those in the military, civil service or those who have excelled in the arts, sciences, business or working for Danish interests.
