The Prince of Wales visited the famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, while in the country for the Earthshot Prize.

Prince William met the 15 Earthshot finalists for this year at the Christ the Redeemer statue on 5 November ahead of the awards ceremony.

Ahead of the meeting, the Prince met with Mayor Paes, who introduced him to Cardinal Orani João Tempesta, O.Cist., Metropolitan Archbishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro and Father Omar Raposo, The Guardian of The Sanctuary, Christ the Redeemer.

Public access to the popular statue was temporarily blocked to allow the Prince time to visit the location with the Earthshot finalists.

Prince William also followed in the footsteps of his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, with a solo photo taken below the statue. He stood in the same spot as his mother 34 years prior.

Diana, as Princess of Wales, was photographed in 1991 during a six-day tour of Brazil with then-Prince of Wales, Charles. Of course, he now reigns as King Charles III.

The Christ the Redeemer, designed by Heitor da Silva Costa, is located on Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro and was completed in 1931.
