The Spanish Royal Family marked the annual Spanish National Day on 12 October in Madrid.

King Felipe, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia took part in the ceremony in Madrid’s Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo.

Upon arrival, the Royal Family was joined by government representatives, including President Pedro Sanchez, for the official honours done by a battalion of the Royal Guard. The royals then sat in the Royal Tribune for the raising of the flag and military parade.

The national anthem played as the Spanish flag was raised before the King and Princess of Asturias paid tribute to fallen Spanish soldiers. King Felipe and Princess Leonor laid a wreath at the platform dedicated to those who gave their lives for Spain before the chaplain of the Royal Guard delivered a prayer.

A flyover by five E-27s (Pilatus) of the Spanish Air Force then took place.

The Army, Navy, Civil Guard, Military Emergency Unit, Royal Guard, State Security Forces and Corps were joined by emergency services for the military parade that concluded with another flyover.

A reception was then held in the Royal Palace of Madrid for over 1,000 guests.
