Queen Mary of Denmark has attended the National Grief Centre’s 25th anniversary.
She was received the Minister of Social Affairs and Housing, Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, Chairman of the Board, Mads Koch Hansen, Director, Preben Engelbrekt and the Minister of Children, Youth and Families, Mads Pedersen.
Queen Mary gave a speech in which she said, “‘Grief is an indispensable part of love. You can’t love someone and then say, ‘It doesn’t matter that you’re not here anymore. Grief is the price of love.’ So said the late priest, author and lecturer Johannes Møllehave. He also said that love is worth the grief. Because even though it can be difficult to find meaning in losing someone you love, there is always meaning in loving the one you have lost. Today, we celebrate that Children, Youth & Grief has worked for 25 years to ensure that grief is not allowed to destroy the lives of children and young people. For 25 years, you have created hope through conversations, support and high professionalism. With you, professionals and volunteers have met thousands of children and young people with respect and care. Here, children and young people’s grief can be allowed to fill in without taking over.”
The celebrations also included a presentation by professor and grief researcher Maja O’Connor from Aarhus University and several musical performances.
