Bhutan’s King and Queen have concluded a historic state visit.

King Jigme Khesar and Queen Jetsun Pema concluded a five-day state visit to Vietnam, the first from Bhutan to a Southeast Asian country.

The Royal Office for Media said that Their Majesties “were received with great warmth throughout the visit, during which Their Majesties met with government and business leaders, as well as the small community of Bhutanese living in Vietnam.”

King Jigme Khesar and Queen Jetsun Pema were welcomed by Vietnam’s President and First Lady and toured many important locations in the country. The King also met with members of the government, and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment and WWF spoke to the Queen about biodiversity, conservation, and sustainable development.

Their Majesties thanked Vietnam for their warm welcome and invited Vietnamese authorities to visit Bhutan.

The King and Queen also brought their three children (Crown Prince Jigme Namgyel, Prince Ugyen Wangchuck and Princess Sonam Yangden) along with them for the trip, and photos were released of the happy family while in the country.

King Jigme Khesar and Queen Jetsun Pema were in Vietnam from 18 to 22 August.
