The Duchess of Edinburgh has met with a 105-year-old Royal Marines veteran ahead of the 80th anniversary of VJ Day.
The Duchess sat down with James ‘Jim’ Wren at his care home in Salisbury. He survived the sinking of HMS Repulse in 1941. He was later a prisoner of war for three and a half years, as he was captured trying to escape from Singapore in February 1942.
Mr Wren called it a great honour to meet the Duchess, which she rebutted with, “No, it’s my honour to meet you.”
