Regional mourning for former Emir

Countries in the region have declared national mourning following the death of the Qatari Emir Father, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Following the announcement of the death of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Qatari Emir who reigned from 1995 to 2013, countries in the area have jointly declared a national mourning period in solidarity with the “nation’s great loss.”

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani died at the age of 74 on Sunday which was announced by the Amiri Diwan. Funeral prayers were held in accordance with the Islamic faith in Doha before a burial at Lusail Cemetery.

Countries in the area such as the United Arab Emirates and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan have declared four-days of national mourning with flags ordered at half-mast. Royals from around the world have started to send their condolences following the death of the Emir Father.

Various members of the royal families are expected to travel to Qatar in the coming days to express their condolences in person at Lusail Palace.
