The Belgian Scroll Tiara arrived in Luxembourg as part of the trousseau of Princess Joséphine-Charlotte of Belgium when she married the future Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg in 1953.
The tiara was a wedding present from the Société Générale, a bank from France. It was made by Henry Coosemans. Joséphine-Charlotte wore the Belgian Scroll tiara in some of her wedding portraits, but she wore the Congo Necklace tiara for the actual wedding ceremony. She also wore it for her mother-in-law’s abdication ceremony.
The central diamond can be detached and worn as a ring.
Joséphine-Charlotte loved the tiara and wore it almost exclusively, but she did lend it to one of her daughters-in-law several times. After Joséphine-Charlotte’s death, the tiara was nearly auctioned off, but it remained with the family following a public outcry.1
