The Dutch Laurel Wreath Tiara is one of the oldest pieces in the royal collection.
However, it is unclear when exactly it came into the family. One theory states that it originally belonged to Princess Louise, the sister of King William I of the Netherlands. Another theory suggests that it was made in the early years of the 19th century and purchased later by Queen Juliana to give to Princess Beatrix for her birthday. Princess Beatrix did receive it as a birthday gift, but we don’t know if it was a new purchase or a tiara that was already in the collection.
Princess Beatrix often shared this tiara with her sisters, Princess Margriet and Princess Christina. It was also worn by two royal brides, Princess Laurentien and Princess Maria Carolina of Bourbon-Parma.1
