Later in the day, Princess Ingrid Alexandra welcomed Jannicke Mikkelsen to the Royal Palace in Oslo. Mikkelsen was the first Norwegian woman in space and was part of the Fram2 space expedition, which orbited Earth. The Royal Court said that the voyage “was the first manned space flight in polar orbit.”

Mikkelsen presented the Princess with photos from her journey and the Norwegian flag that had been on a launch to space.

Norway’s first research rocket was launched from Andøya in 1962.
